Selkirk Walleye Team Tournament Rules and Regulations

(Tournament Dates are Saturday, October 1st, and Sunday, October 2nd, 2011)

Updated July 26, 2011

1.         Entrants may fish on the Red River from Lockport up to and on Lake Winnipeg.  They may not fish in any creeks flowing into the Red River, such Netley Creek, Wavey Creek, Cook’s Creek, and Devil’s Creek.  They must fish in obeyance of all provincial angling regulations.

2.         Fishing hours are from 8:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. both days.

3.         A team member must show his or her team entry tag number to one of our weigh-in judges each time his or her team weighs-in a walleye.

4.         Each team may only weigh-in 4 walleye each day of the tournament.  Each team may count 2 walleye below 55 cm (22”) and 2 walleye over 55 cm (22”) each day of the tournament.  Before being weighed a walleye will be measured with its tail fin pinched to determine if its length exceeds 55 cm (22”).  Sauger or saugeye are not eligible for weigh-in in the tournament.

5.         Any team member weighing-in a walleye greater than 70 cm (28”) must have signed the back of his or her angling license prior to weighing-in that fish in obeisance of the Special Walleye Regulation.  If  a team member requires a replacement 2011 Angling Licence it can be purchased at Starfish Bait and Tackle or Skinner’s Hwy 44 in Lockport, or Fas Gas, Walmart, or Canadian Tire in Selkirk.

6.              Teams may launch their boats at Lockport, Selkirk Park, Chesley’s Resort, from cottages or homes along Netley Creek, from

the small launch site in East Selkirk on Cook’s Creek, but not from any location on Devil’s Creek or the Brokenhead River.

Those teams not launching at Selkirk Park must also have their live-wells checked before 8:00 a.m. both days of the tournament

and must pick-up their information envelopes at either of the Selkirk Park Boat Docks before they will be considered officially

entered in the tournament both days.  We will use only one trickle start for all Teams entered both days of  the Tournament.

The earlier a team enters the earlier it will go both days.

7.         Live-wells or coolers with water at river temperature are mandatory.  A team may use its own big cooler of water to carry all walleye to be weighed-in up to the scale at the Selkirk Park Boat Launch or use one of our big coolers to do so.  One of our officials will carry up the cooler if a team member is unable to do so.

8.         After the officials have weighed-in a fish for a team they will determine if it is releasable in good health and thereby eligiblefor counting.  Each walleye will have a stress recovery period of 1 minute in our recovery pen in order to be eligible for counting.  A team will lose the weight of that walleye if it does not swim away by the end of that minute, i.e. only 3 walleye will count for that team’s total weight for that day.

9.        In order to have walleye weighed-in at the end of the tournament, teams must give their team number to a weigh-in official at

the end of one of the two boat docks in order to have their last few walleye weighed-in after 4:00 p.m.  No excuse will be

accepted whatsoever from teams who arrive late for the Final Weigh-in at 4:00 p.m. sharp each day of the tournament.

10.       All types of natural baits such as frozen minnows, live chubs, nightcrawlers, leeches, and artificial lures are eligible for use in the derby.  All hooks used in the tournament must be barbless.

In the event of any disputes by tournament entrants, Tournament Director and one other rep from the Officiating Committee will be the Final Jury of Appeal.  It is also mandatory that every entrant fishing in the tournament must be in possession of a certified and appropriately fitting life jacket and that he or she will be using it.

Tournament Liability Waiver:  The tournament organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and prize donors waive all responsibility for

any loss, theft, or damage to all personal property as well as for any injury or the accidental demise of all registered entrants in

           the tournament.
